These are the nominees of the 2019 edition of the Denniz Pop Awards. Voting starts on May 20.
GAMMAL – Rookie Artist/Band
GAMMAL is a Swedish duo, writing music about the fears of getting old. They want to capture all the anxiety and fear that life consists of and transform it into hope and dreams. Their first single “Blommor Där Du Står” is now certified gold in Sweden and on the way to platinum with over 7 million streams on Spotify.
LOVA – Rookie Artist/Band
Empowering the next generation of female creators is what inspires the Swedish artist LOVA. She has recently been awarded a stipend from the Swedish Music Publishers Association and was nominated for Best New Artist at P3 Guld 2019. Her latest single, “My Name Isn’t”, is a powerful song about being done with being seen as an object.
Winona Oak – Rookie Artist/Band
Winona Oak stepped into the spotlight as both the writer and featuring artist on What So Not’s single “Beautiful” in 2018. But her biggest writing credit and feature to date is The Chainsmokers’ hit song “Hope” with over 100 million streams. With her debut EP on the way, 2019 looks set up to be the year of Winona Oak.
LIOHN – Rookie Songwriter/Producer
Despite his young age, LIOHN has already co-written and co-produced three Axwell^Ingrosso singles including their Grammy-winning and multi-platinum single ‘More Than You Know’ with over 600 Million streams on Spotify. LIOHN strives to push Swedish music in a new way in the international and domestic markets.
Selen Özan – Rookie Songwriter/Producer
Selen Özan is an independent producer, composer, arranger and singer with a background in jazz music working mostly with pop artists in Sweden. Besides writing and producing songs for others she also works with film music, operates Oda Studios music collective that she founded 2017, and lectures in music production.
Anton Göransson – Rookie Songwriter/Producer
Anton Göransson is a songwriter and producer who has released songs with artists like Icona Pop and SHY Martin. Lately, he has been working closely with Tommy Brown and his team to develop the sound of a band called Social House, who is currently opening for Ariana Grande’s North American tour. The song ‘Magic In The Hamptons’ sold gold in the US.
Rotana – International Rookie
Rotana is an artist and songwriter born and raised in Saudi Arabia. She moved to Los Angeles to pursue music after quitting her job at the largest oil company in the world. Whether she’s performing with her band or public speaking, she takes the audience on a journey of finding her voice as an artist, a woman, an immigrant, and an entrepreneur.
Madison Love – International Rookie
Madison Emiko Love is a Japanese, American multi-platinum selling songwriter and vocalist from Los Angeles. Madison is recognized for clever concepts and lyrics, memorable melodies and an emotional voice. She has written songs for Ava Max, Zara Larsson, Axwell^Ingrosso, and Pitbull among many others.
Joan – International Rookie
The duo joan make infectious alt-pop with lyrics that’ll tug on your heartstrings wrapped seamlessly in 80’s inspired synthwave beats. Their debut EP ‘portra’ represents the first phase of the duo’s music and includes the first four singles released which have earned the duo over ten million streams across all platforms.
